Voss Chilcutt Milloway was born July 7th, 1929 at home in High Point, NC and raised on North Spring Street in Greensboro, NC. He studied architecture at North Carolina State University and then was drafted into the US Navy. After serving, he attended University of Miami where he graduated with honors with a degree in Business Administration. While attending the University of Miami, he met the love of his life, Marilyn Anne Meurer, during their Government 101 class. They married in 1957 and hence, the adventure began!
After attending the University of Miami and marrying Marilyn, Voss worked for First Research Corporation in Miami. He then worked for Food Fair and W.T. Grants in their real estate departments where he excelled in identifying and negotiating new site areas for the company’s future locations. His brother, John E. Milloway, an MAI Appraiser in Miami, in 1972 convinced Voss that “The only way to make money is to be in business for yourself!!” This led to an extremely successful partnership and career in shopping center development in Fort Myers and Sebring FL.
Voss and Marilyn have three sons, James Voss, Richard Bennett and Thomas Meurer of whom they are immensely proud. James and Richard were born in Jacksonville, FL and Thomas was born in Mahwah, NJ.
Voss loved his family dearly, though, did have a second love, his custom 1978 Cadillac El Dorado convertible. He also loved to entertain and often said, ‘It’s not a party unless you have live music!’.
Along with his wife Marilyn and their sons, James, Richard and Thomas, Voss is also survived by several nephews and nieces.
Voss passed away on February 10, 2021 in Fort Pierce, FL. A graveside service to celebrate his life will be at 2 PM, Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro, NC, officiated by Reverend Keith Dove. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Florida.
