Walter Wayne Cummings

Walter “Wayne” Cummings, 88, passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Hospice Home of High Point. A graveside service celebrating his life will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., in Greensboro. Born on July 9, 1932 in Guilford County to the late Charles M. and Ethel Nelson Cummings, Wayne was a founding member of Guilford College United Methodist Church. He graduated from Guilford High School in 1950 and married Lora Frances Redman in 1954. Wayne served in the United States Army 1956-1958, and worked as a mechanic and service manager for a local auto dealership until his retirement in 1995. In 1994 he married Brenda Ann Easter. He loved playing golf and was a former member of Deep Springs Country Club. Wayne enjoyed watching various sports, most especially baseball, favorite team being the Atlanta Braves. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Lora Frances Redman; and his brothers, Earl and Harold Cummings. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Brenda Easter Cummings; his children, Cynthia Wolfe (John) of Pfafftown and Barry Cummings (Denise) of Burlington; step-children, Wanda Boyd (Alan) of Stoneville and Elliott Cardwell (Jenn) of Greensboro; grandchildren, Lauren Harris (Josh) of Greensboro; great-grandchild, Blayden Harris of Greensboro; and other extended family and friends. I worked with Wayne, in the service department, and he was not only a pleasure to work with but was a mentor and friend. He was a well respected man and will be missed by many.
