

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Fran Atkinson, his step-daughter, Vickie Thornton, his 3 children, Warren Russell Atkinson Jr., Carol Bergmann and Christine Arnold, as well as his 6 grandchildren, 1 step-grandson and 5 great grandchildren. Special heartfelt thanks to family friend Nelva Grace for the wonderful care and support over the years.
Russ was a Greensboro resident for 43 years, an accomplished drummer, longtime supporter of the Atlanta Braves, and a lover of food and music. He was a lifelong Quaker and recent member of the Muirs Chapel United Methodist Church. He served as District Manager at NFIB for 33 years and was a graduate of Westchester University, receiving his master’s degree from Temple University. He was a 32nd degree Mason at Lansdowne Lodge No. 711 F. & A.M. of Pennsylvania, achieving his 25 year service award. His great sense of humor, amazing blue eyes and his love of life will be missed by many.
There will be a memorial celebration at Hanes-Lineberry at 515 N. Elm St, Greensboro on Wednesday March 19th at 2pm with a visitation to follow. Friends and family are all welcome.
