

William (Bill) Alexander Ryals, 94, a resident of Greensboro passed away on Thursday March 23, 2023 at Moses H. Cone Hospital. His family and friends called him "Ducky Ryals". He was born January 24, 1929 in Erwin, the son of Ernest Franklin and Alice Lorena Stone Ryals.
Bill was an insurance agent working first with Carolina Insurance Co. and Farmer’s Mutual Insurance Co. then Century Mutual Insurance Co. until he retired. He loved working there and shared fun memories with the people he worked with at Century Mutual. Bill loved playing golf as well as watching golf tournaments on TV. He also enjoyed spending time at the beach. His real love in life was his wife, daughter, grandchildren, and his great grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve and was a member of Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church.
He was married to the love of his life for 71 years, Phyllis Ann Taylor Ryals who preceded him in death on August 23, 2020. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Rosaline, Ernestine, Lottie, Jessie Lee, Elizabeth (Dib), Richard (Dickie) and Stuart.
He is survived by his loving and caring daughter, Judy Ryals Ritter and husband Warren of Greensboro, grandchildren, Angie Smith Barlowe and husband Deckster of Concord, Patti Smith Jackson and husband Garrett of Pleasant Garden, Jason Ritter of Greensboro; eight great grandchildren and his half-brother, Eugene Ryals of Huntersville, Sister-In-Law Mary Ann Taylor of Summerville, SC and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday March 29, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Guilford Memorial Park conducted by the Reverend Kirk LeJeune. Following the service the family will receive friends with a reception at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Bill’s caregivers: Pattie Smith, Zack Sharpe, Sherol Touart and Sharna Quick. They would also like to thank the nurses and Doctor’s at Cone Hospital for the care Bill received.
Serving as pallbearers will be Deckster Barlowe, Garrett Jackson, Jason Ritter, Jacob Johnson, Joey Jackson, and Timmy Jackson.
Memorials may be made in Bill’s memory to: St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children or Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church.
