A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 20, 2015 at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary. Family visitation will be held immediately following the service in the Virginia Gilmer room. The inurnment will be held prior to the service.
He was born to the late William Sherrod and Alma Hollingsworth Gay in Franklin County, North Carolina. He is a US Navy veteran. He worked at J.P. Stevens as a Group Divisional Controller and Assistant Treasurer.
Scrappy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife Anne Prillaman Gay; daughter, Ann Lee Gay Bugbee of Apex; and grandson Jeremy Charles Bugbee of Raleigh.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Greensboro Urban Ministries, 305 W. Lee Street Greensboro, NC 27406 or to the Salvation Army, 1311 S. Eugene Street Greensboro, NC 27406 in memory of Cortell “Scrappy” Gay.
