

Known by friends and family as Bill or “Shorty”, he was born June 25, 1924 in Greensboro, the youngest of 13 children born to John Thomas Highfill and Mattie Belle Roach Highfill.
Bill was a graduate of Curry High School (affiliated with Woman’s College and now UNCG) and attended Guilford College. He was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Army. Bill was of the Presbyterian faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as 12 brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mildred Highfill, of the home; daughter Denise Highfill Hinderliter and husband, Steve, of Summerfield; son Jim Highfill and wife Nancy, of Suwanee, GA; two granddaughters, Lisa Highfill of Daegu, South Korea and Lauren Highfill Williams and husband Josh of Atlanta, GA.
The family wishes to express our sincere appreciation to the staff of Heartland Living for the excellent care Bill received during his lengthy stay there.
A memorial service will be held at Hanes-Lineberry Chapel on North Elm Street on Saturday, February 9th at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service and burial will be a private cryptside service at Westminster Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimers Association, 3800 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215.
