

A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 26, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Neil Dunnavant officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Virginia Gilmer Room.
Bill was born December 13, 1926, in Monroe, NC to the late Martha and Jack Snyder. He attended Sullivan School in Washington, DC which was a West Point and Annapolis Prep School. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy and went on to N.C. State and graduated in 1950 with a Degree in Engineering. That same year, he was drafted into the Army and served in combat engineers in the Korean War.
Upon returning from Korea, Bill went to Fayetteville where he met his future wife Ann. They were married on May 16, 1953. In 1954, they moved to Greensboro and founded Snyder Insurance Agency. He enjoyed golf, was an opera and history buff; especially the Revolutionary War and loved vintage cars. His pride and joy was a 1948 British Green Rolls Royce which he enjoyed driving for the brides of family and friends on their special day. As an opera enthusiast, he attended the Metropolitan Opera in New York City and was a founding member of the Greensboro Opera Company.
Bill was very active at First Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and also as a member of the choir. He also helped found Irving Park United Methodist Church. He is the past President of the Greensboro Historical Museum, past State President and National Board Member of the Sons of the American Revolution, past President of the Carolina Association of the Professional Insurance Agents and had been a member of Gate City Kiwanis Club for 45 years. He enjoyed traveling to many places around the world.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Ann Snyder. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ann Pender; daughters, Pam Sessoms and husband Keith, Fran Jones and husband Roland, both of Greensboro; grandchildren, Keith Sessoms, Jr. and Ann Pender Sessoms, Rick Parrish, Manning Jones; cousin, Martha Adams Hopper of Boise, ID; nine nieces and nephews and special friend, Robert F. Simpson
