Wixie Odom Stalder

Berta Wixie Odom Stalder, a former resident of High Point, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2015 in Charlotte, NC, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 13, 1917, one of eight children of Annie Stubbs Odom and Grover Cleveland Odom in Gibson, NC

As a young woman, she moved to Charlotte, NC and met the love of her life, George Carl Stalder and they were married on Christmas Eve. Following her husband’s military service, they moved to High Point. She was a long time member of Montlieu Avenue United Methodist Church. When the children were grown, Wixie began working for Sears and continued there for 30 years, retiring at the age of 73. Wixie loved pet birds and her favorite was a little yellow parakeet named Pepper. She also loved to travel. She moved to Charlotte several years ago to be near her daughter, Anne.

Wixie was preceded in death by her husband George in 1981. Surviving are her daughter, Anne Tyner of Charlotte, NC; son, George Stalder Jr. and wife Judy of High Point, NC; grandchildren, Brian Stalder and wife Susan, Jacob Stalder and wife Leslie, and Sam Stalder; great grandchildren, Abby , Daniel, Jonathan , Ocean and Luna; brother, G. C. Odom Jr. and sister, Marguerite Aycoth.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, 2:00 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with entombment at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the service at Hanes Lineberry.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
