

Gloria Diane Austin, 55, of Greensburg, lost her battle with cancer on Saturday December 26, 2015. She was born in Greensburg on April 25, 1960, the daughter of Donald & Ella ‘Jeannette’ Reed Austin. Gloria was a lifelong resident of Decatur County and a 1978 graduate of Greensburg Community High School. She was also a graduate of Indiana University. She loved the Beatles, cats, and sports. She was a collector of eclectic items. Gloria was a lifelong member of the Greensburg United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Chancel Choir using her musical ability to hear harmonies and sing any part as needed. She was also a member of the Bell Choir. In the past few years, Gloria assisted with the Children’s Choir where she shared her love of music with the little ones.
Gloria also enjoyed her association with Tree County Players. She was involved with various roles, from on-stage performances to behind the scenes with props, production, and directing. In the past she worked at the local public library and as a sports journalist for the Greensburg Daily News.
Gloria is survived by her mother, Ella ‘Jeannette’ Austin of Greensburg, her brother, Brooks Austin of Fishers, IN, and her god-daughter, Kayla Menkedick Gilbert of Jeffersonville, IN. She was preceded in death by her father, Don Austin.
Visitation will be at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home Sunday, January 3, 2016 from 4 to 8pm. Funeral services will be at Greensburg United Methodist Church at 11am Monday, January 4, 2016. Pastor Tim Brock will be officiating. A private family burial will be held later that day at South Park Cemetery in Greensburg.
