

Janet L. Power, 82, of Greensburg, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at her residence. Janet was born January 6, 1932 in Madison, Indiana, the daughter of Virgie (Green) and Robert McLaughlin. Janet was a 1950 graduate of Greensburg High School. On August 17, 1952, she married David L. Power in Greensburg and he preceded her in death on January 10, 1997.
Janet spent most of her working years as a seamstress and also was very active in the community. She served for many years on the Board of Directors for the Arts and Cultural Council of Decatur County where she was also very involved in many committees within the organization; she was involved in New Directions, Delta Theta Pi and Delta Theta Tau Sororities, the Decatur County Historical Society, and was also a member of the Springhill Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two daughters - Nancy (John) Combes of Punta Gorda, Florida, and Trish (Matt) Tangman of Seymour; one son - Jay (Inge) Power of Greensburg; one sister - Susie Green of Greensburg; one sister-in-law - Lois McLaughlin of Greensburg; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one great-grandchild on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son David Douglas Power, one sister Evelyn Graves and two brothers Jack and Jim McLaughlin.
There will be a memorial visitation held in Janet’s memory on Tuesday, June 17 from 4PM – 7PM at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Janet’s Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 18 at 11am at the Springhill Presbyterian Church, burial of Janet’s ashes will follow in the Springhill Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Janet’s family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Arts and Cultural Council of Decatur County (ACCDC), New Directions of Decatur County, or Our Hospice of Decatur/ Shelby Counties.
