Jerry Frank Kitchin, 75, of Greensburg, passed away on February 15, 2021. He was born on September 23, 1945, in Salinas, California, the son of Frank and Norma (Pollard) Kitchin. Jerry was a 1963 graduate of Arlington High School in Indianapolis. He graduated from Boise State in May 1975 with a BBA degree from the College of Business and Economics, and an MBA from Idaho State in 1977. He completed one year of law school before moving to Greensburg to operate the Kitchin family farm after his father’s death in July 1978.
Jerry was a farmer for over 40 years and was an early proponent and one of the first to do no-till farming in Decatur County. His major interests included playing his trumpet in Indianapolis-area bands including the White River Jazz Band. He loved Dixieland Jazz and the music of the 20’s and 30’s. Jerry also enjoyed dancing with the Die Flederm Tanzgruppe and Flying Cloud Academy of Vintage Dance. He traveled extensively with his long-time companion. Jerry composed several tunes, beginning in high school, mostly jazz or folk compositions. He sought critical review of these and intended to have them published.
Survivors include Jackie Aldridge, his longtime companion, his sisters Judith Bolitho and Nancy (Steve) Letman. Nieces and nephews include Russell Bolitho, David (Kyley) Bolitho, Jason (Theresa) Letman, Laura Letman, Stefani Letman, and Jonathan (Hiroko) Letman. Also his great-nieces Avery, Lily, and Sidney Bolitho and great-nephews Wyatt Letman and Kailash Letman.
Jerry was a Sargent in the US Air Force as a military policeman from 1964-1968. He was stationed in South Korea, the Philippines, and Minot, North Dakota. He was particularly honored to have guarded Air Force One on two occasions. One of the things that gave Jerry immense satisfaction while stationed in South Korea was teaching English to a group of Korean women. They gave him gifts and corresponded after he left the military.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association. Reverend Shannon Burford will officiate at a virtual service at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Burial will follow at the South Park Cemetery in Greensburg. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.gilliland-howe.com
