Norbert J. Meyer

Norbert J. Meyer entered into eternal life at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis Saturday, October 6, 2018, his 88th birthday. He was born in College Hill, Ohio, the son of Ann (Nieman) and Joseph O. Meyer. Norbert was an active member of St. Mary's Church in Greensburg, where he attended elementary school. He graduated from Greensburg High School in 1949. As a youth, he worked in his father's store, Meyer's Grocery, on West Main Street in Greensburg. Later, Norbert was employed at Peter Eckrich and Sons of Greensburg for 35 years. He served in the Armed Forces during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, defending his country. Norbert married Connie Navarra on October 17, 1953. They would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this year. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Greensburg Adult Center, and Greensburg Country Club. He delivered Meals on Wheels to community members. Norbert is survived by his wife; daughter, Kathy (Meyer) Campbell of Columbus; son, David J. (Roxie) Meyer of Greensburg; grandchildren, Nick and Jason Meyer, both of Greensburg, and Christopher and Katelyn Campbell, both of Columbus; sister, Ruth Buerger of Jacksonville, Florida; and brother-in-law, Robert (Joan) Navarra. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Freda Navarra; brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Helen Navarra; and brother-in-law, Richard Buerger. Norbert enjoyed playing golf, cards, and spending time with his family. He had a jovial personality, positive attitude, and enjoyed singing and whistling as he went about his day. An expert storyteller, he loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. Norbert had chosen to donate his remains to Indiana University Department of Anatomy. A celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 16 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greensburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund and Greensburg Community Bread of Life.
