

Ginger was born on December 18, 1946, in Bartonia, Indiana to the late Marcus and Dora (Yoder) Patterson. In addition to her parents, Ginger was preceded in death by her brother, Danny Patterson.
Ginger is survived by her husband of 57 years, Claude Sowry, whom she married on November 24, 1967; her children, Robert (Matti) Sowry and Tamiko Nikole (Charles Robert) Barker; her grandchildren, Jacob (Emily Ford) Sowry, Chloe LaFaye Sowry, Dale (Kiersten) Bowling III, Bailey (Faith Penn) Bowling and Austin (Paige) Nutt; her great grandchildren, Aaleigha, Brinley, Chasper, Easton, Avery and Lane; her sister, Pam Melton as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Ginger grew up on a farm and went to a small country school until 8th grade. She was a 1964 graduate of Union City Community High School in Union City, Indiana. After high school she pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Ball State University (1968) and later a Master of Education from Wright State University (1983). She devoted her life to teaching; she taught at Westmont High School, Ansonia Migrant Program and retired from Ansonia High School after 31 years in the classroom. Throughout her career she had the opportunity to teach in Costa Rica and Texas. Notably, she was the 1992 “Teacher of the Year”, not only for Ansonia, but also for all Darke County. Her hobbies included attending school and athletic events supporting her grandchildren, tending to her flowers and traveling. She was blessed to be able to travel to many places around the country and to several Spanish speaking countries and for the last several years, she and Claude wintered in Frostproof, Florida. She endeavored to be a dedicated teacher, loving wife and mother and a caring “Mimi”.
As per Ginger's wishes her body has been donated to the Wright State School of Medicine.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, November 12th, in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Coleen Besecker, officiating.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.
