James D Whipp

James “Dean” Whipp, 83 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday April 22, 2026, at 8:40 AM at EverHeart Hospice Care Center, Greenville, Ohio. James was born November 18, 1942, in Lewisburg, Ohio, the son of the late Karl I. and Mildred (Hoffman) Whipp.

James was a 1960 graduate of Lewisburg High School; he worked as a computer programmer. He was a member of the Greenville Elks; the West Milton Masonic Lodge where he was Past Worshipful Master; the Darke County Parks where he loved to volunteer at all of the events and served as treasurer; he was also an avid reader.

James is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Doyle, and Don Whipp; and his sister, Joan Yount.

James is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Grimes) Whipp whom he married October 26, 1991; his children, Brian and Sue Whipp, Jason Christman, Jodi Christman, and Ryan and Becky Christman; his grandchildren, Hailey (Quintin Waters) Christman, Caitlin (Coltin Addis) Christman, Jaelyn Christman, Parker Christman, and Preston Christman; his great grandchildren, Kohen Wogoman, Everleigh Addis, and Paxton Jo Waters; his sister and brother in law, Janet and Terry Richards; his brother and sister in law, Dale and Charlene Whipp; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for James will be held on Saturday April 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Doug Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Darke County Parks or the Greenville Public Library.
