She was born on June 20, 1972, in Richmond, Indiana to the late Carol Bowman Huntington and Donald Huntington of New Madison, Ohio.
In addition to her mother and father, Julie was preceded in death by her brother Donald "Greg" Huntington, her maternal grandparents, Tom and Pauline Arnett; her paternal grandmother Mary Huntington; and many aunts and uncles.
Julie was a 1991 graduate from Tri-Village High School. During high school, Julie enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics and participating in swine showmanship through 4H. When she was not doing those things, she would spend her time cheering her brothers on at their own sporting events. Julie went on to spend much of her time volunteering in the community. She brought happiness and hope to others via the Darke DD Advocacy in Action Group, Greenville Kiwanis Aktion Club, Artistic Variations Dance Group at Final Bow Dance Studio, Person Centered Services/Active Day, Regional Advocacy Group of Southwest Ohio, and volunteering at the Anthony Wayne Preschool. These organizations and events brought many opportunities into Julie's life, and she always greatly treasured the happy memories she made and special events she was able to participate in through them. When Julie was not volunteering or working you could usually find her concentrating on a word search, playing cards, coloring, or enjoying her afternoon cup of coffee. More than anything, Julie loved to love others, and she easily connected with the people around her. If she knew you, she held you closely in her heart always.
Julie's close friend and mentor, Sue Huston, describes Julie the best saying, "Julie was known for her beautiful smile, quick wit and contagious laugh. She was very active in the DD community- she spoke at conferences and trainings locally, regionally, and at the state level as well as being an active volunteer for countless projects. She was quick to make friends anywhere she went and was well known across the state. She adored the kids in her classroom at Anthony Wayne school and valued her time there. She took her work very seriously. Wherever she went, she made sure people gave her their plastic caps so she could help put plastic benches around our county. She was a light in all of our lives. We are all better for knowing her and she will be missed tremendously."
Julie is survived by her stepfather, Jack Duke of Greenville; her brother, Kevin (Angelea) Huntington of Kettering, Ohio; her nephews and niece, Caleb (Alyssa) Huntington, Lucas (Jennifer) Huntington, and London Arwood and her great nieces; her numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her large family of friends she made through Darke County DD.
