Marilyn Kay (hartzell) Smith

Marilyn Kay Smith, age 77 of New Madison, Ohio passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 7:50 PM at the Brethren’s Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. Born in Union City, Indiana on July 15, 1944 she was a daughter to the late John & Kathryn (Hittle) Hartzell. Marilyn was a graduate of Mississinawa Valley High School, class of 1962. She married her husband of 56 years, Tom Smith on June 25, 1965. She was a member of East Zion Community Christian Church in Greenville, Ohio. Marilyn had worked for Greenville Transit as a driver and dispatcher, and also worked for Wayne Hospital in registration and at the Rehab Center. She liked to volunteer at the Park District, reading books and cooking. More than anything she loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by an infant son: brothers Richard & Pricilla Hartzell; Elden & Fran Hartzell: brother-in-law Jim Leis.

Survived by her husband Tommy T. Smith: children Jennifer R. Roden; Kyle A. & Yvonne Smith: grandchildren Scott Whitesel; Natasha & Casey Kirk; Brandon Smith; Dylan Smith: great-grandchildren Ayden Kirk; Emilie Kirk; Katerina Kirk; Henry Thomas Smith; Jamie Mae Comer: step-grandchild Sonya Lopez: step-great-granddaughters Isabella & Lily Cook: sister Janet Leis: brother Stephen & Pam Hartzell.

Friends may call on the family on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM at the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Funeral service to be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Steve Shoop presiding. Burial to follow at Abbottsville Cemetery, Abbottsville, Ohio.
