Richard Arlan Kerns

Richard was born on May 4, 1940, in Darke County, Ohio to the late Lawrence “Birt” and Oleta (McClannan) Kerns. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Eldon Shoenleben.

Richard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Glenna (Mangas) Kerns, whom he married on May 20, 1961; his children, Karen Hawkey of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Brian (Michelle) Kerns of Greenville and David (Tamela) Kerns of Middletown, Ohio; his grandchildren, Justin Hawkey, Shawn (Morgan) Hawkey, Bradley Hawkey, Jessica (Josh) Frimowitz, Jason (Erin) Kerns, Josh (Morgan) Kerns and Izzy Kerns; 7 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Richard was a 1958 graduate of Greenville High School. He had many jobs over his lifetime, spending over 20 years as a traveling salesman for Martin’s Hatchery. He attended Triumphant Christian Center in Greenville. He and Glenna enjoyed traveling to many lighthouses around the country. He also enjoyed sports with the Cincinnati Reds and The Ohio State Buckeye being among his favorites. Richard’s hobbies included being a part of a square-dancing club and playing cards.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Sam Schillot officiating.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 10 AM until the time of the services in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the New Lisbon Cemetery.
