Adair was born September 21, 1949, in Columbia, South Carolina, daughter of the late C. Fletcher Watson and Adair Aiken Watson. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BA in English in 1971 and received a Master's degree in Counseling in 1973. While at USC she was the editor of the 1970 Garnet and Black, and a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She achieved Golden Arrow status in 2018, marking 50 years since her initiation. After graduation Adair worked as an assistant Dean of Students at USC.
She and David were married on July 30, 1977 in Columbia. After their marriage they resided in Jacksonville, North Carolina where David was an officer in the US Marine Corps. In 1978 they returned to Columbia where Adair was the Director of Public Relations for the Richland County branch of the American Red Cross. In 1985 they moved to Greenville. Adair was a Victim Advocate for the Greenville County Solicitor's office where she retired in March 2018.
Adair was a life-long Episcopalian and received a Master's degree in theological studies from the Seminary of the University of the South. She was a gifted and respected Bible teacher. In 2011 she was a founding member of St. Paul's Anglican Church in Greenville where she found new spiritual life. She was also a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Debutante Club of Greenville and the Greenville County Legal Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Curtis Watson, of Atlanta, Georgia and Aiken Watson of San Francisco, California. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, a son, Allen, of Charleston and a daughter, Adair Kempf and her husband Rene of Greenville.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church on Saturday July 28 at 2 pm, with a reception and visitation following in the Church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cancer Society of Greenville County or St. Paul's Anglican Church.
