Allen Donald Hawk, Jr.

Allen “Al” Donald Hawk, Jr., age 67, of Taylors, South Carolina passed away unexpectedly in New Zealand on Monday, February 19, 2018, while doing something he loved - traveling the world with his wife, Mi Van Hawk (Mai). Al was born December 26, 1950 in Frankfurt, Germany to Allen Donald Hawk, Sr. and Marjorie Duffy Hawk.

Al attended Cardinal Newman High School in Columbia, SC, and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Accounting, Finance and Management. Al served his country for three years in the United States Army as a Specialist 5th Class in the Vietnam Conflict. Al was a Certified Public Accountant who worked in both the public and corporate accounting arenas throughout his career. Al started his career with South Carolina National Bank before moving into public accounting with Deloitte Haskins & Sells. He then spent the majority of his career specializing in telecommunications accounting and management at companies like MCI, Nuvox Communications and Windstream Holdings.

Al's passions were golfing and attending golf tournaments, going to concerts, traveling, spending time with friends and family at the beach in Mexico, and Gamecock football. Al was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Taylors.

Al is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mi; his son, Robert Donald Hawk of Charlotte, NC; his daughter, Barbara Hawk Merrell (Justin) of Greer, SC; his grandchildren, Allison Paige Hawk, Lauren Emma Hawk, Addison Hawk Merrell and Camden Sullivan Merrell.

A visitation for Al will be held Sunday, March 4th from 6:00-8:00 pm at Mackey Funerals & Cremations at Century Drive, 311 Century Drive, Greenville, SC 29607. A funeral service will be held Monday, March 5th at 10:00 am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1209 Brushy Creek Road, Taylors, SC 29687. A private family committal will follow the service at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, in Columbia, SC.
