Anna Katherine Armitage

November 13, 1939 - October 15, 2017

Sunday morning sunrise also came with a sunset. Anna Katherine was born in Dodge County, GA, to Emmit Mitchell Akin and Muriel Frances (Shackelford) Akin, and lived the first half of her life in Perry, GA. She moved to Greenville SC in 1986 and lived there until her death.

A 1957 graduate of Perry High School, she received her AB from Mercer University in 1961. That same year, she married the Hon. Paul C. Armitage (Greenville), who survives her. In Perry, she was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was the church pianist for many years. She was an English teacher at Perry High School during the early 1980s. After moving, she joined the Greenville First Baptist Church. She worked at Orthodontic Associates of Greenville until her retirement.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Stephen Armitage (Salem, OR), his wife Jenny, and their children Georgia and Paula; her daughter Alice Fendley (Moore, SC), her husband Mark, and their children Powell, Camille, Aurelia, and Asa Paul; and her brother Robert M. Akin (Macon, GA) and his wife Vicki.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Greenville First Baptist Church, 847 Cleveland Street Greenville, SC 29601 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's Association.
