Arthur F. Ryan of Greenville, SC passed away on February 7, 2025 at 96 years of age after a period of declining health. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Thomas H. Ryan and Sarah J. (O’Neil) Ryan.
A resident of Greenville for over 60 years, Mr. Ryan retired from Bigelow-Sanford where he served as the Director of Industrial Engineering and Corporate Planning. He attended both The University of Massachusetts and Western New England Colleges. He was a veteran of the US Navy in World War II and served on aircraft carriers in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters. In later years he volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
He was the widower of Joan Helen (Stewart) Ryan; they were happily married 52 years prior to her death. He was also predeceased by brothers: Thomas H. Ryan III, Roy W. Ryan and close sister-in-law Dorothy G. Ryan.
Survivors include sons Peter W. Ryan and wife Erin of Greenville; David A. Ryan and wife Jamie of Chesnee, SC. “Poppy” is also survived by his loving grandchildren Austin Ryan (Mallory), Allison Ryan Metzcar (Jace), Preston Ryan and Annlee Grace Ryan and great-grandson Oliver Ryan.
He was of the Catholic faith. Private services will be held at a future time.
