Ben Eugene Howard, Sr., 92, of Piedmont, SC passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2014. Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Avery Justis and Irene Hunt Howard. He served with the US Navy on several ships during WWII. Ben was an AP Aircraft Mechanic and a member of Southside Baptist, Piedmont. He is survived by five children: Effie H. (Jacob) Bailey, Jeannie H. (Dan) Snider, Holly H. (Jim) Dawson, Ben E. (Elizabeth) Howard, Jr. and Avery Justis Howard; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother: Carroll Avery Howard. Ben was predeceased by his wife: Mary Ellen Harris Howard and a baby girl: Angela Howard. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 12:00 noon to 1:15 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home with the funeral to follow at 1:30 pm in the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home. Committal service will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens, Piedmont following the funeral.
