Obituario de Billy Bryan Huskey
EN EL CUIDADO DE

Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park

Billy Bryan (Bill) Huskey, 98, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025. Born in Gaffney, SC to Jennings Bryan Huskey and Helen Austell Huskey, he grew up in the Grassy Pond community. Bill was a member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church and a graduate of Gaffney High School.

At age 17, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a gunner on an LSM and fighting in the Battle of Okinawa and the Pacific Corridor. Following World War II, he returned to South Carolina and attended the University of South Carolina, where he earned his degree in civil engineering. He remained a lifelong supporter of the university.

While a student, he met and married the love of his life, Thelma Owen. They were married 73 years and raised five children.

Bill began his engineering career with Duke Power and later with DuPont de Nemours at what was known as the “bomb plant” in Savannah/Augusta, Georgia. When that work ended, he moved his family to Greenville, where he managed Fortson Welding Supply and Carolina Builders. In 1961, he founded Huskey Construction Company and became one of the area’s leading commercial contractors and developers. He served on the boards of various financial institutions.

Bill was a private and humble man—steady, steadfast, and respected by all who knew him. He was a devoted and patient husband and father, as well as an accomplished and highly regarded businessman. He and Thelma were longtime members of Leawood Baptist Church until its dissolution, after which they joined Earle Street Baptist Church.

He is survived by his five children: daughters Gail Huskey Kelly (Chuck) and Wanda Huskey Smith (Ted); sons Stanley Huskey (Vickie), Daryl Huskey (Liz), and Victor Huskey (Missy). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his brother Tom Huskey (Janet), his sister Katherine Grayson (Roger), and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Thelma, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

All services will be private.
