Born September 17, 1922 in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late William Bass and Ruth Brown Poole.
Blanche graduated in 1940 from Greenville High School and in 1944, she graduated from the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina, now known as the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she began her study of art. Her artwork, primarily oil on canvas, has appeared in exhibits throughout the Upstate of South Carolina and in New York City.
She was a longtime member of Christ Church Episcopal, Greenville SC.
Blanche was formerly employed at Rich’s Department Store in Atlanta, GA and at Ruth Hammond Dress Shop in Easley, SC.
She was a former member of the Wildwood Garden Club, Greenville Country Club, Poinsett Club, Green Valley Country Club, Tarantella Dance Club, and “The Bridge Club that Doesn’t Play Bridge”.
Surviving are her children: Sharon Mann Piper (Joe) of Greenville, Fletcher Cullen Mann, Jr. (Peggy Brock) of Greenville, and William “Bill” Poole Mann (John Rogers) of Long Beach, CA; grandchildren: Ray Piper Bryant (Wade) of Greenville, Mary Allen Mann Murphy (Mark) of Greenville, and Fletcher Cullen Mann, III of Greenville; great-grandchildren: Hampton Bryant, Avery Bryant, Isabel Murphy, and Sam Murphy, all of Greenville; and nephews: Charles “Chuck” T. Boyd, III (Janie) and William “Bill” E. Boyd (Reidy), all of Jacksonville, FL.
In addition to her parents and her loving husband Fletcher, Blanche is predeceased by her stepmother, Mary Maddox Poole; and her sister, Ruth Poole Boyd Becker.
The family would like to thank her longtime caregiver Shirley Staley for her many years of caring help and dedicated service. They would also like to thank her dear friends, the volunteers and staff of Christ Church, and the staff of NHC Mauldin for their loving and professional care.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 2:00 – 2:45 pm in McCall Parlor, Christ Church Episcopal, 10 N Church Street, Greenville, SC 29601, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 pm in the Markley Chapel. A private burial will follow the service at Springwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Blanche’s memory to the Christ Church Endowment Corp., Fletcher Mann Fund, 10 N Church St, Greenville, SC 29601.
