Born in Greenville SC, she is survived by her brother Neal Bennett of Simpsonville, and her sisters Dana M. Ray (Atlanta) and Teresa Montroy (Waycross GA), and brother Chris Montroy (Atlanta).
Carol was a dear and cherished sister and friend known for her kindness, cheerfulness and abounding energy. She graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1984, and in her junior year was listed in Who’s Who Among American High School Students, 1982-83 for merit-based achievements. From there Carol went on to college and graduated from Clemson University in 1988 with a BS in Animal Science; she was a lifelong and diehard Clemson Tigers football fan. After graduating from college Carol first worked as a vet tech for McPhail Animal Hospital in Mauldin. From there she went on to work independently as a pet sitter, pet groomer, house and business cleaner, and personal assistant. She had tons of clients who became great friends too.
Carol also loved NFL football, and particularly the Indianapolis Colts, the Denver Broncos, and for a time the New York Giants. She particularly loved the Manning Family Dynasty and named two of her rescued kitties Peyton and Eli Manning.
Carol was also well known for her great NFL Super Bowl parties and New Year’s Eve celebrations. She enjoyed swing dancing and in particular West Coast Swing. If you knew Carol well you were bound to either hear or go with her to Styx, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles and other classic rock concerts. She loved driving around in her classic Jeep playing their music.
Animals were central in Carol’s life. She had a lifelong passion for horses, cats and dogs, and her home’s decor reflected much of these. As a pet sitter and pet groomer Carol cared for many fur babies throughout her life, and all of her pets were rescues. She never said no to an animal found wandering and homeless.
A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1901 Wade Hampton Blvd, Greenville, SC 29609 at 1:00 pm on Sunday, January 4th, 2026, and a Celebration of Life will follow at the Local Cue (30 Orchard Park Dr, Suite 7, Greenville, SC 29615) until 3:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol’s name can be made to the Greenville Humane Society (https://www.greenvillehumane.com/donate/#give-online) to further help their great mission of taking care of pets for life.
