Charlton lived with two precious aunts, Lell and Adelaide “Baby” from early childhood until she graduated Greenville High School. She spoke so fondly of the wonderful upbringing and memories from those years at the Maryland Apartments with her aunts. She had the best times and holidays with them. She loved driving by the Apartments to reminisce about those days.
She met Morris “Moose” Keller at a dance around Thanksgiving in 1957. Their future together was cinched when closer to Christmas she asked him what he would like for a present and he responded that he wanted her all wrapped up in a package. They were engaged Valentine’s Day 1958 and married July 26, 1958 after she graduated. They enjoyed 64 years of married life.
Three daughters were added to this union. The family moved from Greenville, SC to Roanoke, VA and out to Oklahoma for 14 years until they returned to SC in 1983. In Oklahoma, they were introduced to having a vital relationship with Christ and practiced living an abundant life of time alone with God in prayer and the Word. They also discipled others, faithfully attended church and Bible Study. Sharing their testimonies in large group settings and leading others to a personal relationship with Christ were highlights of their lives.
Charlton is survived by her devoted husband Morris Keller and three loving daughters, (Scott) Kim Shelton, (Todd) Marie Ploof, and (Tim Morrill) Ryan Watson. Additionally, her joy was being the MiMaw to 7 grandsons and 1 granddaughter: Wes, Kyle, and Blake Jones; Tyler and Brett Shelton; Bryson, Carter, and Gracie Watson. There are also 4 great grandchildren who adored her: Leyton and Reagan Jones; Cade Jones; Adilyn Shelton. Mother had no siblings, but her sisters and brother-in-law were as close as any could be, Ann Counas, Mike and Debbie Keller.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Open Arms Hospice for their care, guidance, and support in the last few months. We are, also, forever thankful for the love and devotion shown by many friends and family during this time.
For those attending her service, in honor of our mother, we are encouraging you to wear pink. Mother told us, “Pink makes me smile. It makes me happy to see that color.”
Psalm 73:24 “You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory.”
