Daphne was born to Thomas and Despina Raptis on February 7, 1963 in Queens, NY and attended PS 135 before moving to Setauket, NY in 1975. She graduated from Ward Melville High School in 1981. She was an athletic standout at Ward Melville, playing both basketball and lacrosse. In 2007 she was inducted into the Ward Melville Athletic Hall of Fame for her outstanding athleticism.
Daphne graduated from Gettysburg College with a major in Psychology. While at Gettysburg she played lacrosse for the Bullets where she continued to excel in a sport she loved. She liked to reminisce about her jogs through the battlefields and her late night snacks at the Lincoln Diner. She always enjoyed visiting the “burg”, walking around the campus, and sharing stories.
Upon graduating from college, Daphne worked briefly for the United States District Court/Eastern District of New York. In September 1986 she met her future husband Jim at a party on Fire Island and they started dating. In October 1988 they married and remained inseparable. Daphne left the court when she got married, and together she and her husband operated a small business together.
In 1993 Daphne obtained her Master’s degree in Special Education from Dowling College, and she and Jim relocated to Richmond, Virginia to pursue a career in education. She loved working with children, helping them to reach their potential. She made many friends in Richmond and enjoyed long walks along the James River and shopping in the Fan District. While in Richmond she pursued her other passion of health and nutrition. She became a certified yoga instructor through the Integral Yoga Institute in Buckingham, VA and started teaching yoga classes.
Daphne’s greatest joy was being a parent to her two children Rhianna and Nicholas. She was blessed to have been a full time mom for her children’s formative years and spent many hours nurturing them and ensuring all of their needs were met; she spent many days at dance classes and soccer and lacrosse events. She loved watching her children participate in activities. She was very fond of her Greek heritage and enjoyed making Greek cookies and pita with her mother. She loved attending the large family gatherings, listening to Greek music, and participating in traditional Greek dancing.
In 2006 Daphne and Jim relocated to Keene, NH to be closer to family and raise their children. After settling in New Hampshire, Daphne quickly made friends and started teaching yoga classes at numerous locations. She completed a plant based nutritional program through eCornell University and lectured on health and wellness. During her time in Keene she also returned to special education, working as a transition job coordinator, special education classroom teacher, and lastly as an out of district coordinator for the Winchester School District.
In August of 2021 Daphne recognized the need to be closer to family, and the family relocated to Greenville, South Carolina to be with her parents and brother and his family. She loved the weather in Greenville and especially loved spending her time with family, taking long walks with her three dogs along Main Street in Greenville, hiking the trails in Paris Mountain State Park, and exploring what the upstate region had to offer.
Daphne loved an adventure and enjoyed jumping in the motorhome and camping throughout New England; she especially loved Bar Harbor, Maine and the beauty of Acadia National Park. She also loved getting away from the cold New Hampshire weather and spending time in Florida. She enjoyed visiting her parents in Vero Beach, shopping with her mom, getting take-out from her favorite noodle restaurant, and walking barefoot on the beach.
Daphne is survived by her parents, Thomas and Despina Raptis of Greenville, SC; her loving husband Jim of Greenville, SC; her daughter Rhianna and son Nicholas, both of Greenville, SC; her brother John Raptis and his wife Silvia and their daughter, Lambrini of Greenville, SC; her very special goddaughter and niece Kirsten Raptis Downing and her husband Joshua of Greenville, SC; her niece Justine Cote and her husband Eric of Asheville, NC; her mother-in-law Helen Logan of Azle, Texas; her sister-in law- Janet Allmer and her husband Dennis of Azle, TX and their children Erin and Brian; her brother in law Dennis Logan and his family; as well as many Bournas and Raptis cousins.
There will be a celebration of life in New York on the weekend of March 18, 2023 with the details to follow and again in New Hampshire at a later date in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to honor Daphne by spending some time outdoors with family and friends, meditating, taking a yoga class, or enjoying a very healthy nutritious meal.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mackeycenturydrive.com for the Logan family.
