

For the Gropp clan a precious light has gone out. Edith Ingeborg Hill Gropp passed away on January 25, 2022 in Saint Francis Hospital, Greenville SC. Edith attended her 96th birthday celebration with family. She was born January 4, 1926 to Finnish-American parents Alma and John Arthur Hill in Conneaut, Ohio.
She graduated from public elementary school in Conneaut, Andrews School for Girls in Willoughby, Ohio and the University of California, Riverside with a Bachelor’s Degree in English and a Lifetime Adult Education Teaching Credential for English and Office/Secretarial Practices.
Marrying Edwin Richard Gropp on March 1, 1946 in Glendale, CA, Edith and Edwin often joked that they had married in a cemetery: Forest Lawn’s Wee Kirk of the Heather. Edith worked as a housewife and as an Administrative Secretary. Her church affiliation was Protestant, Lutheran.
Edith enjoyed many things: raising the children, taking classes, reading, sports, dancing, LIFE.
Preceding Edith in death were her sister Esther Hill Snyder and their brother Reino Hill. Edith is survived by her son Edwin Gropp, Jr and his wife Phyllis (Greer, SC); son Steven Gropp and wife Jane (Lexington, MA); son Thomas Gropp and his wife Janet (Highlands Ranch, CO); and daughter Mary Gropp Rice and her husband Ted (Liberty, SC). Special thanks are given to the Rice family, who attended Edith beautifully in her twilight years.
Edith leaves several grandchildren, who delighted her thru the years. Terrell Gropp, Kevin Gropp, Kathryn Rice PharmD, TedLee Rice, Nicole Gropp Sizemore, Katie Gropp Galloway, PhD, Anna Gropp Johansen, and Michael Gropp.
Great-grandchildren are Alisha, Aaron, Adam and Aidan Galloway. Greyson Gropp Fleitz. Griffin Sizemore. Jane, Jack and Vivienne Johansen. Jenacys Masters. Tyson and Tera Gropp. Tyler D’Ovidio, MD.
