Edward A. Pires

Edward Pires, adored Husband of Mary Ann, Father of Carrie and Father-in-Law of Josh, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2015. After a valiant struggle of weeks, Ed slipped from his family's loving arms into God's. Mr. Pires had been a successful builder-developer of commer-cial and residential properties in the Northeast, prior to relocat- ing to Greenville in 2004. A graduate of New York University and CCNY's Bernard Baruch School of Business, he was twice elect- ed President of the giant Builders Institute of the Mid-Hudson (NY) Valley and was a 30-year volunteer in the cause of Afford-able Housing. As a Greenville resident, Ed participated in several programs of the Greenville Chamber, worked to rehab. housing in the neigh- borhood of his parish---St. Anthony of Padua---and "OLLI-ed" at Furman. A lover of fine wines, once a Commandeur in the prestigious Confrerie de Chevelier du Testevin, Ed became a skilled cook and grew a mean tomato. His favorite view of the world, after decades of international travel with his Wife, came to be that of the Blue Ridge Escarpment from his Living room window. Ed was a sweet, understated guy, a man's man to the end, a handyman par excellence and a great dancer, who delighted in the Symphony and could never listen to enough Sinatra. His final years were overseen by a cadre of caring Doctors, led by the brilliant Craig McCotter and his colleagues at Upstate Cardiology, and also including Fred Rogoff, Jerry Youkey and others, as well as their staffs. His family, including Sister Brenda, Brother-in-Law Gary, Aunts Lorraine and Terry and Uncle Tex, as well as their families, are indebted to them all. A private service for Ed will be held at a later date.
