

She was born September 2, 1949 in Greenville to the late Betty and Theron Cleveland.
Elizabeth graduated from Ashely Hall in Charleston, SC, attended Mary Baldwin College, and graduated from The University of South Carolina with a BA in history. After working as a paralegal in Greenville and Charleston, she returned to USC and earned her Master’s in education. She then taught history and economics at Wando High School in Charleston.
While in Charleston, she was a member of St. Philip’s Church and the Junior League of Charleston. Upon relocating back to Greenville in 1991 she taught briefly at Greenville Technical College before joining The United Way staff. After retirement, she shared her love of reading by teaching adult literacy through United Ministries.
She also volunteered at Christ Church Episcopal of which she was a member. Elizabeth was also a member of the Junior League of Greenville and The Assembly. Elizabeth was a kind and gentle soul and was blessed with many friends. She was especially close to members of her Bible Study who loved her, supported her, encouraged her, and sustained her.
Surviving are her brother, Theron Cleveland and wife Cindy; her sister, Susan Cleveland Conway and husband Pye; her nephew, Tee Cleveland; and her niece, Emily Cleveland Taylor and her husband Alex, all of Knoxville, TN.
The life of Elizabeth Cleveland will be celebrated at a service Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Christ Church Episcopal, with burial following in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
