

Ellen Gail Cureton Nix was born December 3, 1962 in Greenville, SC. She was the youngest child of Mrs. Molly Sullivan Cureton and the late Mr. Oscar Clyde Cureton. Gail was educated in the public schools in Greenville and graduated from J.L. Mann High School. She received a certificate in cosmetology from Chris Logan Cosmetology School. Gail was a member of Reedy River Missionary Baptist Church.
A loving wife and mother, Gail was a sweet, gentle spirit. She welcomed and nurtured many children in her home and was a second mother to nieces, nephews, and any child in need of the special care that only she could give.
In addition to her mother, Gail is survived by her devoted husband of 26 years, Barry L. Nix, Sr., one daughter: Lashondra Nix; two sons: Brandon Javarus Nix and Barry L. Nix, Jr., all of the home; one grandson: Damiel Clarke, Jr. and a child raised in the home, Ryan Hayes.
She also leaves to mourn five sisters: Myrtle Hall Smith, Maude Marie Shell of Greenville and Cecelia Jean Albert (James) of Greenville; Princess Cureton (Thomas Way) of Norwalk, Connecticut and Pricilla Ann Howell of Austin, Texas; three brothers: James Sullivan (Beatrice) of Long Island, NY, Oscar Clyde Cureton (Sandra) and Thomas Charles Cureton of Greenville. She leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Piedmont, SC.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 21, 2010 from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home.
