So sorry to hear about Gary. I knew of Gary since the early 70's when my dad Ed Smith helped Gary with his Hardware store! I remember so many times going with my dad to Phillips Hdwe! Great memories getting to know all your family over all those years! Gary also let my husband Alan work at the store on weekends. Such a gracious family and loved by many people w many good memories! Let's all realize this was one of the best friends and business owners in the upstate in his day . The Phillips family was one of the premier building suppliers in this area and through out the 70s and 80s  Gary was the best friend that any builder could have.  He bent over backwards to keep all those guys goin through thick and thin  and he befriended most every new family that migrated to the growing east side . If you knew  Phillips hardware you knew a hard working family that always offered a helping hand whether it was mamma flo or papa Alvin Gary Beth or billy u could find a friend as we all know the small family building supply fell to the big box stores and Gary fell on hard times.  He kept it up for years and finally gave it up.  God bless u Gary   U were good to me and my family  as u were to countless others  I bet the Phillips  and gilstraps are havin a good time tonite.  Tell uncle Larry and sneak I'm still losin on the race pool.   Love u brother
