Gayle Campbell Guest passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023, after a 4-year battle with vascular dementia. She was born on November 12, 1943 (a native of Greenville, SC) daughter of the late James Robert and Dorothy Jones Campbell.
She moved many times, living in SC, TN, OH and FL. Gayle graduated from Miami Edison High School (Miami, FL) in 1961 and then returned to Greenville, SC. She enrolled in Draughn’s Business College, taking shorthand and other business courses. She was employed by Kelly Services, the Chamber of Commerce, J.E. Sirrine, Stipp & Powell and her last position was with Piedmont Natural Gas in Sales, and retired after 23 years of service.
After returning to Greenville, she volunteered as a hostess with the United Service Organizations (USO) from 1961 - December of 1962 (when Donaldson Air Force Base closed) on Main Street, in downtown Greenville. She supported many enlisted men and women by helping them feel connected to family, home and country while they were serving the needs of the United States military. She loved meeting new people and never met a stranger.
She went to many plays and concerts and also loved traveling - going to Hawaii, Alaska, Costa Rica and touring Europe and many places in the mainland of America.
She will be missed greatly and forever cherished.
Gayle is survived by her sisters, Pamela (Ronnie) Clark of Knoxville, TN and Andi (Reams) O’Neal of Taylors, SC, a niece, Teri Margolis of Long Island, NY and her children: Michael Rahbar, and Jonathan & Sara Rayola, and cousins (Rosemary, Bucky, Carol, Rusty and Kathy).
Many thanks to the staff at TerraBella Summit for their love and care of Gayle in her final days and to Interim Hospice for the many visits and equipment supplied for her care and comfort: Amy, Carmen, Christa and to the Chaplains Bobby and Robert for their kindness, sharing the love of Christ and giving a listening ear.
