Gene Wyatt Horton, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 28, 2015.
Born in Jefferson, SC, he was a son of the late Andrew and Nettie McCaskill Horton.
Mr. Horton was a member of that Greatest Generation and honorably served and retired from the U.S. Navy. As a young man he was a natural athlete who excelled in sports, especially baseball and played on several different teams. He was also an avid fisherman and was known for always having a good catch. Gene loved the game of golf and shot the score of 70 at age 70 and even had a hole in one. He always attended the Masters. Locally he was a member of the Upstate Golf , Piedmont Golf, and Foothills Golf Associations and the Lakeview Country Club. He was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church in Belton. His smile, bright blue eyes, insights into life, and vibrant personality will be sorely missed.
He is survived by the love of his life for 70 years, his wife, Lena Vance Horton; daughters, Ann H. Hill and husband Cletus of Clearwater, FL, and Jeanne K. Horton of Taylors; grandsons, Brombie Peterson IV (Vicki), and Justin Vance Hill (Kasey) of Ft. Myers, FL; and great-grandchildren, Brombie Peterson V, Kayln Peterson, Austin Hill, Evan Hill, Logan Hill and Ellesandra Hill all of FL. He was predeceased by his daughter Patsy H. Fuller and her husband, Billy Fuller; 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
The funeral service will be Monday, November 2, at 2:00pm at Oak Hill United Methodist Church in Belton with Reverend George Scott officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
