She lived a life that was defined by dedication and compassion. Her strength lived in her gentle, kind nature, and her genuine love of life and others. She emitted a nurturing spirit, and had an infectious ability to bring hope and laughter into your day.
Beth was born and raised in Taylors. She graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1971 and was a lifelong member of the ARP church of Greenville. Beth spent her professional career working at Fluor Corporation in the marketing department. In retirement, she shifted her focus to seeing the successful development of Cancer Survivors Park in downtown Greenville where she served as a Board member. Cancer played a major role in her life. She was a proud breast cancer survivor, and lived with liver cancer for over nine years. Those around her witnessed the power of her character as she navigated the rollercoaster of various treatment routines. If you didn’t know her strength before this phase of life, you learned how strong she was through this era.
She loved her family, her friends and their families, long walks on the beach, basking in the sun, gardening, time spent with her son, and seeing the success of others around her. Her legacy lives on within her countless friends, family members, and colleagues that were lucky to share time with her gracious spirit. She made the world better.
Beth is survived by her son Patrick Leatherman (Megan) of Kealakekua, HI; sister Phyllis Poole Montgomery (Dan) of Huntsville, AL; former husband Harold Leatherman of Greenville, SC; step-daughter Tracey Jackson (Robert) and grandson RJ of Lexington, SC; as well as two nieces Amanda Monville (Michael) and Christa Marik, three great nephews, a great niece and her beloved dog Ritz. She was preceded in death by her mother Harriett Farr Poole, father Melvin Poole, brother Wayne Poole (Cathy), and Aunt Leola “Wola” Shooks.
A celebration of life is being planned to take place at a later date. Please consider making a loving donation in Beth’s name to the Cancers Survivors Park Alliance (www.cancersurvivorspark.org) or to Hospice of the Upstate.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mackeycenturydrive.com for the Leatherman family.
