As a faithful servant of the Lord, Helen’s activities made her special to many – creating a library at Lee Road Baptist Church, organizing bus tours and using her firecracker energy to guarantee a memorable time for all, and caring for many family members in times of illness.
Her many friends were dear to her and her family precious. We all have gifts, but Helen had the determination and persistence to make the most of hers: Master gardener, Loving caregiver, Diligent employee, Gracious hostess.
She also had a gift for selecting and sending greeting cards to those she loved.
She kept an immaculate home and took great pride in her garden where she had been working only a few days before going home to be with the Lord. “Saint Francis of Assisi was hoeing his garden when someone asked what he would do if he were suddenly to learn that he would die before sunset that very day. ‘I would finish hoeing my garden,’ he replied.”
Helen was predeceased by her husband Robert Earl Hensley, son Fred Hensley, parents Sloan Manuel and Mable Burgess Keaton, sister Joann Keaton Lindsey, brothers Thomas, Melvin, and Bobby Keaton. She is survived by her brother Tony Keaton, sons Tom Elrod and Eddie Hensley and grandchildren.
A Graveside service will take place at 1pm, Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made in her honor to Shriners Hospital.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.woodlawn.com for the Hensley family.
