Hilleary lived a life defined by service, kindness, and a genuine love for people. He began his professional journey as a pastor, dedicating himself to guiding and caring for others in their faith. Later, he transitioned into a career as a manager with McDonald’s, where his same servant-hearted spirit continued to shine. He cared deeply for the people he worked with and those he served, leaving a lasting impact on coworkers and customers.
Outside of his work, Hilleary found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved sports and rarely missed an opportunity to watch a game. He also had a special love for Christmas, a season that reflected his generous spirit and brought him happiness in celebrating with his family. He will be especially remembered as a quiet, loyal man who was always there when it mattered most. His steady presence brought comfort and strength to those around him, and his dependability was a gift to everyone who knew him.
Above all, Hilleary was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He shared 38 loving years of marriage with his wife, Gayle Quay. Together, they built a family rooted in Christ and love. He is survived by his wife, children, Brittany Gehrt and her husband Andrew Gehrt, and Josh Quay and his wife Hannah Quay; and by his cherished grandchildren, Brayden and Ashton Quay, who brought him immense pride and joy.
A funeral service will be held on March 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Buncombe Street Methodist Church, with visitation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Hilleary’s honor may be made to the Buncombe Street CDC Scholarship Fund.
Hilleary will be remembered for his loyalty, steady presence, and the way he made others feel seen and valued. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply.
He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
