James was born on September 29, 1930 in Canton, Ohio. He was the son of the late George Harvey Barnett and Magdalene Thompson.
He retired from Republic Steel Inc. after 41 years.
James is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Donna Barnett. Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, James William Barnett Jr. (Gayle) and David Barnett (Terri); five grandchildren, Nikole, Randall, Krista, Jeff and Adain; five great-grandchildren Seth, Andrew, Jordan, Makenzy and Ivy. Predeceased by one son Michael Allen Barnett.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Edgewood Baptist Church, Candler, NC. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville, SC.
The family will be receiving friends prior to the service from 12:00 am to 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Edgewood Baptist Church.
