

Jim was born in Los Angeles on September 12, 1943 and later moved with his family and grew up in Sacramento California. He attended UC Davis where he earned a degree in civil engineering. After college Jim joined the United States Navy and became a U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps Officer earning the rank of Lieutenant. During his military service he served in the Vietnam War for one tour, and then finished his service working in Madrid Spain and North Africa. While in Madrid he met his loving wife and they were later married in Philadelphia and moved to California to further his career in the construction industry. While in California his son Christopher was born and then the family began a long string of moves and adventures around the US and the world.
Jim joined Daniel in 1976 and started his career there as a Project Construction Manager working on the largest airport build in the world in Saudi Arabia, then moving to Puerto Rico as a VP Division Manager for the Caribbean, back to Greenville South Carolina as VP of International Operations, then on to Hong Kong and Australia as President and COO of the Asia Pacific region. The family then returned to the United States where he landed them in Houston, Texas as VP and General Manager of the Power Services Unit. Jim then left Flour Daniel and moved to St. Louis Missouri to become the President and CEO of FruCon Construction for three years, and then went on to a long career as an Executive Construction Consultant. Jim eventually retired and moved back to Greenville, South Carolina. Jim wanted to live near their close friends and be closer to their son Chris and his wife Anne with their two adored Grandchildren – Connor and Caitlin Barry.
Jim is survived by his wife Michele, son Christopher and his wife Anne, Grandchildren Connor and Caitlin, and his older brother Thomas Barry.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 1pm at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 3pm until 5pm at the mortuary.
