

James Alonzo Castillo "Jim" lived a fulfilling life of 72 years as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He passed away peacefully with his family around him February 21, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. He was born on May 8, 1948, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the son of Librado M. and Otimia G. Castillo.
James graduated from Alma High School. He married Linda Sanchez on August 27, 1966 and they spent the next 54 years together. They raised 2 sons and the joy of his life was his family. He spent time sharing stories and being a wonderful grandfather to his 8 grandchildren and great granddaughter. Jim's passion was hot rods and spending time with his hot rod family. Jim and Linda lived in St. Louis, Lansing, Alma, Ithaca, Farwell and retired to South Carolina in 2019.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Louisa David. Surviving in addition to his wife, Linda (Sanchez) Castillo, are his two sons: Samuel (Lisa) and Michael (Kylene); eight grandchildren: Samantha (Kyle Dickinson), Matthew (Danielle), Emily (Chris Randall), Andrew (Ashlynn), Madison (Bishop Hagerman), Katelyn (Andrew Freed), Michael, Kenadie, and one great granddaughter, Xyamara. He is also survived by six sisters and four brothers: Elida, John, Esteban, Liz, Linda, Olivia, Joe, Mary, David, Theresa and many nieces and nephews.
He was loved for his stories, humor and his creativity. We will miss Grandpa dearly.
Family and friends will be invited to a celebration of life gathering in May back in Michigan. More information will be provided closer to the date.
Jim fought cancer four times and in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to the American Cancer Society to help others.
