
Born in Shelby, NC he was the son of the late John Aaron Beam Sr. and Anne Bryce McLaughlin Beam, and Lula Beam, who raised him from a toddler. John received his undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University and his MBA from the University of South Carolina. He was in the ROTC program in college and then served two years in the US Army.
John was an industrial engineer with Hoechst Celanese, a long time member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, and retired after more than forty years of service.
Surviving are his wife of sixty one years, Barbara G. Beam; his three sons, John A. Beam, III and his wife Beverly, of Nashville, TN; Robert G. Beam and his wife Susan, of Greenville; and David A. Beam and his wife Cora, of Raeford, NC; his three grandchildren, Mary Cathryn Armstrong, Chris Beam and Matthew Beam; and his siblings, David (Mary Lou) Beam, of Fairfield, FL; Irene Camp and Katherine Beam, both of Shelby, NC.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Buncombe Street UMC. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10:00am – 10:45am in the Tommy Thomason Sunday School Room.
