Born in Greenville, SC, Champ was the son of the late J.D. Scott and Martha Orr Scott.
Mr. J.D. Scott was a well-known retail grocery merchant of which Champ was extensively involved with while growing up. When he wasn’t busy with the grocery store he loved riding horses and had several as a young adult. After high school, Champ graduated from Furman University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1945. In his early career, he was the sales manager for American Mutual Insurance Company and later moved over to C. Douglas Wilson as a sales executive. Additionally, Champ prepared income tax returns for many people.
He was a member of First Baptist Greenville, where he was member of the M.T. Anderson Sunday School Class. Champ and his late wife, Juanita Scott, also sang in the Rotary Civic Chorale. Together they gave many years of service to Meals on Wheels and after his wife’s death he continued to deliver meals alone. Champ and Juanita traveled extensively throughout the world during their 58 years of marriage. They enjoyed much of the world but especially European Countries. In addition to horses, Champ loved automobiles but especially convertible sports cars. Out of all of his loves, he put Jesus Christ and other people in front of everything. Champ was loved by everyone and enhanced everyone’s life he touched. He immensely enjoyed living at The Cascades at Verdae for the past several years where he made numerous cherished friends. His time spent there was a major highlight of his life.
