Jack was the son of the late John Anthony Sternik and the late Jane Sophie Klimaszewski Sternik. He attended Rutgers University, and then in April of 1966 joined the United States Army as a Finance Officer and MP, stationed in Korea. In his postservice years he held management positions, and studied drafting and was a model maker working in the World Trade Center. He later came to Greenville and took courses through Fluor Corporation and became a Piping Design Engineer in the disciplines of Biotech and Nuclear.
He did contract work for various engineering companies in the Upstate, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, California and New Jersey. He often mentioned that the job he enjoyed the most was the model making. Jack was a Northern boy who loved the South, but once you would hear him refer to pizza as "pie" and Cokes or Pepsi as "soda" or "pop" and hear him pronounce coffee as "kaw fee" you would know that he was no Southern boy. Jack enjoyed music and singing. When he was young he sang doo-wop with a group, singing anywhere from sidewalks to various gigs. He loves to brag about one time doing backup for Little Anthony and the Imperials. For as long as he was able he enjoyed singing in the choir at Taylors First Baptist Church. In the early years he loved building and working on his homes as well as helping others with their homes. He loved traveling, something that he and Judy tried to do whenever they could. He enjoyed sports, particularly football, especially his Clemson Tigers.
Although he was never the kind of grandfather that crawled around on the floor with his grandkids he loved them and was so proud of their accomplishments. He adored his dogs, and he missed them terribly once he was no longer at home.
Most of all Jack loved the Lord and would talk about Him to whomever would listen. In 2013 he wrote a book entitled Count on God, a book in which he shared his faith as well as stories from others about their faith. This book can be found on Amazon.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Judy, his sons, Dean Sternik (Wendy), John Sternik, Nichole Sternik; Stepdaughter, Kristen Comp (Andrew), Stepson, Heinrich (Erik) Comp (Stephanie); grandchildren, Garrett Long, Genevieve Long, Kaleb Comp, Brandon Sternik (Brittany), Jordan Sternik, Caitlin McMeen (Zach); Shane Sternik, Riley Sternik, John Edmond Sternik; and great-grandson Maverick McMeen; sister, Lori Pomposelli (Thomas); Nephew, Dr. Thomas Pomposelli, Jr. (Katie), niece, Ashley Pomposelli.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Denise Marie Lopez and brother James Russell Sternik.
