Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Barbara Giaquinto (née Per); son Jason (Amy) and daughter Jamie, two spoiled grandchildren Jarod and Jacob; and his tight-knit family – Daniel (Debbie), Toni (Matt) Putnick, Susan (Joe) Calaciura, and Michael (Dawn). He is preceded in death by his father Daniel and mother Elizabeth (Flocco).
Joseph was born on December 26, 1954 in Philadelphia, PA. He attended Bishop Neumann High School in South Philadelphia and developed the street smarts and fearless attitude that shaped his life. He married Barbara Per, his high school sweetheart, in 1979. His career in textiles and warehouse management took him and his family to Greer, South Carolina. There they raised their children to love cars, the ocean, and family. His children will remember their hero for his infectious sense of humor, over-sized heart, and resiliency in any situation.
Joseph was an exceptional gear head who was self-taught every skill he developed. He was a Mopar devotee who restored multiple classic muscle cars and raced a Top Sportsman dragster at the area race tracks. His love of cars and tinkering was shared with his children and his many friends in the Mopar community. His favorite pastime was raising money for area charities at the local car shows he frequented. He was a kind-hearted storyteller who would go to the ends of the earth to help his friends – who were like an extended family. When he wasn’t spinning a yarn or tinkering with his cars, he could be found supporting his favorite teams – the Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers – or planning his next trip to the casino.
A private celebration of life will be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Spartanburg Regional Hospice at https://regionalfoundation.com/donate-now/hospice/ or the charity of your choice. Condolences can be shared with the family on Joe’s memorial Facebook page.
