Surrounded by the love of her family, Joy Elizabeth Erwin Morris’ prayers were answered November 5, 2010. She was healed in a moment by her precious Savior from the “crown of her head to the soles of her feet” after her courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Joy, the youngest daughter of Clyde and Mary Erwin, was born in Rome, Georgia on August 24, 1964. She is the treasured wife of Patrick Morris for fifteen years and remains his forever “darlin’’.
After graduating from Greenville Technical College in 1986, she lovingly cared for the patients and families of Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital System for twenty-five years. As a Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse, she received numerous awards including the Edward H. Stall Compassionate Care Award. She worked faithfully as a nursing preceptor to countless new nurses inspiring in them the passion of her own soul that “giving to others is the best investment of one’s life”. She was called by doctors, patients, families, and co-workers “the best of the best”!
Joy is a lover of others. Her servant’s heart is portrayed best in her extraordinary love for her family. She tirelessly cared for her aging mother, and nurtures everlasting “JOY” in the lives of others. She is remembered by her sisters, Mef and Cissy, and two brothers in law, Olin and Eric, two nephews, five nieces, four great nephews and seven great nieces. Her name is perfect for her! Joy poured herself lavishly onto others and she is missed beyond what mere words could ever express.
Joy’s life and legacy will be remembered Monday evening, November 8, 2010 from 6:00- 8:30pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Greenville. On Tuesday, November 9th at 2:00pm, family and friends will honor her in a celebration service in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Joy and her family express their deepest gratitude to all those who traveled this journey with her. Special thanks to Dr. Larry Puls and the Cancer Center of the Carolinas, Dr. Tremont and the staff of MD Anderson Cancer Center of Houston, Texas, and countless others for excellent medical care. Also, to the team members of Vista Care Hospice, thank you. Joy longs to see the end of ovarian cancer and encourages everyone to listen closely to the disease that whispers. Strength and courage to all her sisters who are still waging their battle….remember, “JOY wins like a girl!”
