She was born September 2, 1946 in Fork Shoals, SC to the late Billy and Minnie (Griffin) Griffith. Growing up, her family didn't have much, and the thriftiness and hard working nature she learned as a child carried through her entire life. Her sisters meant so much to her, and they continued to remain close throughout their journeys in life.
With a strict sense of adherence to rules coupled with a truly kind heart, she was exceptional at the two main callings of her life, motherhood and banking. She would often take the harder, less traveled path, if it was the right one in her heart.
She independently raised three daughters, teaching truth and caring while making sacrifices to make sure they had a life much easier than her own. She had an inspiring strength and determination, combined with an incredible selflessness. As a mother, she truly led by example, living the lessons she taught her children. One of the most memorable characteristics she had as a mother was always making sure the family went on a vacation together every year, even when all the children were grown and there were grandchildren. She was a dedicated mother and expected the best of her children. She was most excited to become a grandma, spoiling the grandchildren at any opportunity she could, sending handmade cards and "a little cash" for any type of holiday she could use as an excuse.
She always followed through with what she said and remained committed to anything she started, working for Bank of America for more than 40 years in which she formed lasting relationships and won numerous vacations and awards for her exceptional performance at her job.
After retirement, she discovered her love of art, reading and writing. She attended classes at Senior Action, where she met some wonderful new friends. She was excited to learn new things in life she had never had the time to enjoy before she retired.
She is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Shannon and Shane Stokes of Greer, SC; Tara and Charles Comer of Rock Hill, SC; and Bretta and Brandon Asklund of Willard, NC. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Rylan and Ethan Comer and Jakob and Luke Asklund. In addition, she is survived by her two sisters; Billie Sue and husband Melvin Pearson of Greenville, SC and Sylvia Arledge of Taylors, SC.
Family will receive friends at 1 pm on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Remembrance Chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park at 1 Pine Knoll Dr. Greenville, SC 29609. The funeral service will follow at 2pm, with Rev. Martin Atkins officiating.
