

Langdon Sumpter Ligon, Jr. died November 10, 2022 at the age of 100. He was blessed in marriage to his beloved wife Marjorie for 64 years. He was predeceased by his parents Minnie Fennel and Langdon S. Ligon, Sr. and his sister Eugenia Helen Ligon.
He is survived by his daughter Sally Hutcheson, son Langdon S. Ligon III and his wife Jackie, son Harrell Wilson Ligon, Jr. and his wife Ann, son Richard Cater Ligon and his wife Krista; eight grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Mr. Ligon was born in Greenville, SC and graduated with the first graduating class of the "new Greenville High School" in 1939. He attended Clemson College graduating in 1943. While there, he was class officer for three years, Regimental Commander of the Clemson Corp. of Cadets, leader of the Clemson Senior Platoon, area Corp Commander of the Pershing Rifles, member of the Senior Council and recipient of the National Association of Cotton Manufacturers Award of Highest Excellence.
During World War II, he served as First Lieutenant in the 102 Infantry Division in Europe. After service, he entered the textile business first with Milliken then with Abbott Machine Company. In 1962, he founded Lang Ligon and Co., Inc. - a business that continues to serve the textile industry.
He was a member of the American Textile Manufacturers Association and the Southern Textile Association and former member of the Greenville Jaycees, Greenville Sertoma, Greenville Country Club and the Poinsett Club.
He was an organizing member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as teacher, SS superintendent, Deacon and Elder before returning to the First Presbyterian Church and served as teacher, Deacon, Elder and Trustee. He was co-organizer and initial Board Chairman of the Presbyterian Community Foundation and board member of the Russell Memorial Presbyterian Church.
He was re-organizing member and initial Chairman of the Board of Young Life Greenville. He was also board member of the Greenville Rehabilitation Center and Emeritus board member of Miracle Hill Ministries.
The family will receive friends at the Mackey at Century Drive on November 14 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM followed by a private graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Miracle Hill Ministries, Box 2546, Greenville, SC 29602, First Presbyterian Church or to a charity of one's choice.
