Greenville the majority of her life.
Her parents were Joseph BrattonSimpson and Pearl Bolt Simpson. Lillian graduated from Furman in
education. She taught in Greer and Greenville Schools. Later she obtained her Masters from Duke University in Guidance.
Lillian became a Guidance Counselor and later the Guidance Supervisor for Greenville County Schools. She truly loved her work working with young people.
Lillian was active in many different organizations. She was a member of AAUW and the Democratic Women’s Club of Greenville County. She was on the Greenville Tech College AreaCommission and took part in the Coalition for Women on Boards and Commissions. She served on the Executive Boards of the YWCA and the Boy Scouts of America. After retirement, she volunteered at Child’s Haven, an organization established to meet the needs of preschoolers handicapped by abuse and neglect. Lillian was the president of her own investment club for a time.
She was a longtime, faithful member of First Presbyterian Church and participated in Circles and other
programs there.
In her free time, Lillian loved to travel with friends all over the world. She was an avid reader and always kept abreast of the news.
Lillian was a kind and caring lady who had many good friends and co-workers. She was a wonderful, supportive sister and aunt. Lillian had one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph Bratton Simspon, Jr.
and his wife, Frances Abercrombie, both deceased. She had one niece, Linda S. Grimes (husband, Randy and children, Annie and Catherine) and one nephew, Joseph Bratton Simpson, III (wife, Amy
and children, Sara, Kristyn, and Holly) and many great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at First
Presbyterian Church in Greenville on Saturday, April 21, at 11:00 AM.
Family will greet guests from 10:00 to 11:00. In lieu of flowers, please
make donations to The Bridge at Foothills, Presbyterian Community,
205 Bud Nalley Dr., in Easley, SC 29642, or to the Alzheimer’s
Association.
