Lucille received her Bachelor’s degree from Lander University, followed by graduate studies at the University of Tennessee.
Mrs. Barnett was a registered dietician who served as Director of School Food Service for the Spartanburg County School system for 33 years, was President of the American School Food Association, and was a respected consultant on child nutrition to countries around the world, including Algeria and the North African region, through the US Agency for International Development. She also served as President of the South Carolina School Food Service Association and the South Carolina Dietetic Association.
Mrs Barnett loved people, food, gardening, and animals. She had a passion for adopting rescue dogs later in life, with whom she spent many happy days at home in Greenville and at her vacation home at Wild Dunes, in the Isle of Palms. In her final years, she rediscovered the joy of cats, and lived with her adopted kittens, Chester and Clemson, until her death.
Lucille is survived by her great niece and nephew, Elizabeth and William Taylor, and the many friends who will remember her and the stories of Lucille that they will forever carry in their hearts.
