Mabel was married for 45 years to Clyde Jackson, who passed away in 1987. Together in Hondo, they owned the Half Circle auto body repair shop where Mabel was a hard-working business woman who kept everything in order. She was described by friends and family as a “dynamo, strong-willed, independent, and someone who was always on the go.”
Mabel was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and very often provided communion to those in the local nursing home who could not attend Sunday service. She was a member of Hermann Sons and was active in the Hondo Chapter of the AARP. When she retired from running the shop, Mabel volunteered at a local food pantry. She was described by her fellow Hand and Foot card players as “a good friend, a good sport when winning and losing, and the host with the best snacks.” Mabel occasionally filled in as a receptionist at a local Hondo law office.
Mabel spent many hours creating beautiful needle art pieces where the back of the piece was almost as neat and perfect as the front. Mabel made the best dressing at Thanksgiving, and she thankfully shared it with us all. Many of us have tried to replicate it, but it just never tastes the same. She also made the best blackberry cobbler and coconut cream pies, her meringue was picture perfect. Mabel was a spiffy dresser as her great granddaughter, Lily remembers. She had a beautiful yard, and you may have seen her out at 2:00 am watering during water restrictions. She was a determined woman. As proud as she was of her yard, she was more proud of her family.
Mabel is survived by her son, Duane Jackson; daughter-in-law, Dianne Granger Jackson; granddaughter, Christine Jackson Jordan; grandson-in-law, Ronald “Tony” Jordan; great granddaughter, Lillian Jordan; niece, Beverly Brown and her husband, Danny; and nephew, Alan Muennink and his wife, Karen.
